National Night Out is a celebration put on my a number of Neighborhood Watch groups throughout the country, including Dallas. The point of this celebration is to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate support and participation in local anti-crime efforts, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community relations, and send a message to criminals letting them know our neighborhoods are unified.
When is National Night Out?
The first Tuesday of August every year.
What Happens at a National Night Out Celebration?
A typical celebration consists of Neighborhood Watch groups hosting an evening event. These events are often centered around food and games to help encourage greater neighborhood interactions. Additionally, if your event is registered with the Dallas Police Department an officer will stop by allowing your neighborhood to discuss whatever you want. This is also a great opportunity for kids to interact with the police!
How to Register:
Come mid-June, register your event with Dallas PD. Your registration puts your celebration on the list for a visit by a Dallas officer, if requested.
