The Oregon Mayor's Association (OMA) and the City of Dallas invite you to enter the 2024 "If I were Mayor..." student contest. Share your creative ideas about what you would do if you were our Mayor!

 

Local Entry Deadline

All entries need to be received by March 4th, 2024 by 11:59pm.

Prizes

Local winners

There are cash prizes for the top three winners in each of the three categories (Poster, Essay, Digital Media Presentation). First prize is $100, second prize is $75, and third prize is $50. The first prize winners in each category will be automatically be submitted to the Statewide contest.

Statewide winners

The local winners in each category are entered into a statewide contest where there is a cash prize of $500 for first place winners.

Poster Contest Essay Contest Digital Media Presentation
  • The Poster contest if open to students enrolled in grades 4 and 5 or being home-schooled at the same grade level for the 2023-2024 school year.
  • Poster size must be a minimum of 17" and a maximum of 28" in height and width.
  • Students are encouraged to be creative and may use any art medium (e.g. poster paints, felt pens, colored pencils, pastels, crayons, three-dimensional art, etc.)
  • The poster may be in color or black and white.
  • The student's name and a daytime phone number or email address for their parent or guardian must be included on the entry form and affixed to the back of the poster.
  • You can also take a photo of the poster (front and back) and save as a PNG, JPEG, or BMP file.
  • The essay contest is open to students enrolled in grades 6 through 8 or being home-schooled at the same grade level for the 2023-2024 school year.
  • Essays must be 500 to 1,000 words in length and typed.
  • The student's name and a daytime phone number and email address for their parent or guardian must be included on the entry form and submitted along with the essay.
  • Acceptable file formats include: Word, PDF, PowerPoint, and Prezi.

 

 

 

  • The digital media presentation contest is open to students enrolled in grades 9 through 12 or being home-schooled at the high school level for the 2023-24 school year.
  • Presentations must be one to three minutes in length and may be submitted on USB drive or emailed.
  • The student’s name and a daytime phone number or email address for their parent or guardian must be included on the entry form and submitted along with the presentation.
  • File formats allowed: MP4, Visme, Pitcherific, VideoScribe only
