Leaf Pick Up
Leaf pickup is an important part of stormwater management in Dallas. When leaves are left on streets or gutters, they can block storm drains, impact the city’s stormwater system, and contribute to pollution in local creeks and the Willamette River.
Residential leaf pickup is provided by the Public Works Department as a free service to the City of Dallas Residents from November through December.
Street Sweeping
Our street sweeping program helps keep streets clean, safe, and attractive, while reducing debris that can clog storm drains and pollute local waterways. The sweeper removes dirt, debris, and light amounts of leaves, preventing them from entering our stormwater system and creeks.
Why It Matters: Cleaning the streets prevents pollution from entering storm drains, helping protect the environment and maintain clean, functional infrastructure.
How You Can Help:
- Remove large debris and vegetation in front of your property.
- Trim trees so the sweeper can reach the curb.
- Move vehicles, trash cans, and other obstacles on sweeping days.
- Do not blow grass clippings or leaves into the street.
- Encourage children to dispose of litter properly.
What the Sweeper Picks Up:
- Dirt, natural debris, and light leaves.
- Small branches (but not large items, grass clippings, or mud).
These programs are funded through the storm utility fee to help maintain Dallas’s stormwater system.
